An explanation of wealth needs supporting evidence
Source of wealth concerns how total wealth was accumulated. Source of funds concerns the origin of particular funds. A statement addressing one may leave the other unresolved.

What the official sources say
MAS announced an S$2.6 million composition penalty on DBS for AML/CFT breaches between July 2015 and February 2020 involving 11 corporate customers. The action followed examinations connected to Wirecard-related developments. [1]
MAS identified outdated beneficial-ownership information, risk-rating failings, inadequate corroboration of higher-risk customers’ and owners’ wealth, and insufficient enquiries into unusual transactions. MAS did not find wilful staff misconduct in the four institutions covered by the announcement. [1]
The S$2.6 million is DBS’s component, not the S$3.8 million total across the four institutions. These control findings do not establish that every customer or transaction was fraudulent.

Distinguish the two sources
Source of wealth concerns how total wealth was accumulated. Source of funds concerns the origin of particular funds. A statement addressing one may leave the other unresolved.
Seek corroboration suited to the claim
For a claimed business sale, look for reliable evidence of ownership, consideration and receipt. Select proportionate evidence rather than collecting unrelated documents.
Resolve contradictions
If the amount or timing conflicts with the account activity, investigate the difference. Document the basis for accepting the explanation and any remaining uncertainty.
What would you do next?
Fictional exercise: A higher-risk beneficial owner attributes a large investment to selling a business. You have a personal statement and a bank credit from an intermediary, but no reliable evidence connecting the sale, ownership and receipt.
